The key element behind the TrueSonic Technology is the combination of resonant motor design with modern microcontroller and sensor technologies to produce wide-bandwidth, adjustable, linear vibration. Resonating motors previously have been used to create sources of high-performance vibration and are very reliable, power efficient and quiet. However, they have the major disadvantage running at a single resonant frequency, and as such are usually difficult and expensive to manufacture with limited end-use applications. TrueSonic Technology uses patented circuits and software to operate resonant motors enabling new applications that require large range of frequency adjustable speed and power.
The vast majority of battery powered systems that require vibration do so using a DC rotary electric motor with a weight mounted eccentrically on the shaft. As the shaft turns, the uneven distribution of weight forces the system to vibrate. Although conceptually simple and cheap (because the motors are mass produced), this method of creating vibration has a number of well-known drawbacks: 1) Power inefficiency, 2) Noise, 3) Limited lifetime (due to excessive torque on bearings in the motor) and 4) a fixed speed-power operating curve; meaning you cannot independently set speed AND power.
TrueSonic Technology overcame all of these issues. TrueSonic Technology's motors are simple to design to be more efficient, quiet, and reliable than their rotary counterparts. Additionally, TrueSonic Technology patented drive circuits and software allow for completely independent control of motor operating speed and power. This opens up a wide new variety of applications, including those requiring powerful, low frequency vibrations and those requiring accurate vibration-playback of sound or music information.
